A beautiful day across the island and a good day to head out to Arecibo and visit the Lighthouse. The lighthouse is historically significant (see below) and for the youngsters the play land is fun.

The Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park has excellent customer service, maintenance, security and range of amenities. This is a great place for a family, couples or groups for a day trip.
There are a few acres of land to be discovered but the main attraction is the lighthouse itself. The structure has special historical significance because it was finished in 1898- making it one of the last buildings erected by the Spanish government.
From the lighthouse you can enjoy majestic views of the Atlantic ocean and include magnificent sunsets and also whales can be seen in the winter. Since the lighthouse is set atop a knoll it is possible to see the mountains of the central range. A 360 degree view of the northern area of Puerto Rico can be seen from this vantage point.
Those who want to learn about pivotal moments in history that have come to define our race and community should definitely visit the historical park. There you will find replicas of Taino village and Spanish ships you can explore, in addition to exhibits focusing on the abolition of slavery and pirates. There is also a saltwater aquarium located within an artificial cave where you can view sharks, moray eels, seahorses and other marine life.
An outdoor walk will allow you to enjoy all the amenities the site has to offer. Don’t forget ot visit the big recreational area outfitted with refreshing water jets, fun slides and boats. You can end your day of fun and learning by taking a dip in the huge Jacuzzi featuring a waterfall.
  • The entrance fee is $12.00 for adults (13-64 years old), $10.00 for children (2-12 years old) and seniors (65+). There is a parking fee of $3.00 per car.
  • The park is open 9:00am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday, and 10:00am – 7:00pm on weekends. They are open regular hours on holidays, too.
  • Allow 1 or 2 hours, or more if your kids want to spend time playing.
  • You can call 787-880-7540 for more information.
