Jose de Diego Day is celebrated annually on the island on the third Monday in April. Jose was born in Aguadilla in 1866 and spent his life and career working toward the independence of Puerto Rico. He was a staunch and outspoken anti-Spanish rule activist in his day and partnered with President McKinley to overturn Spanish rule.
Many towns across the islands hold parades and festivals in remembrance of this great Puerto Rican patriot.
